A letter to my future self

I visited KC

Le City of Kansas

Yea, the Chiefs lost lmao

So, I went to Kansas City by train. thought the Lincoln Service, Missouri river runner train. I could have driven but driving is a waste of time. I can’t comprehend on why the average american defaults to driving when getting somewhere That is beside the point, Another funny thing: Kansas city is in Missouri not in Kansas. Well, there is another Kansas city that is actually in kansas but it’s way smaller and mostly used for manufacturing.

What were they thinking?

SC-44 Charger

I got there around 9PM because Amtrak can be very Disfunctional, and because of the stupid freight trains. When I got there I was feeling a bit sick and I needed some zicam. In any major city you would expect a 711, CVS, or walgreens to be open. Yea, there was none of that, not a single pharmacy or kobini in sight

Luckily there was this awesome Supermarket that had everything and they closed at 10PM. So I went in and grabbed my stuff, Thank god for the supermarket The hotel was nice, everything about it was great except for the lack of a refrigerator which was a tad bit annoying but it really just meant that I was going to drink room temp water instead of cool water, Not much of a deal breaker TBH.

The Phillips Hotel , I’d recommend it. I picked it because it was cheap and it was in close proximity to the T mobile center. I was here for a concert so it was convenient.

I can’t draw any comparisons between KC and other cities, It’s sort of it’s own thing, I can’t compare it to say Chicago or Seattle or something like that. If anything I’d say it looks like a chunk of Downtown Jersey city in New Jersey.

The streets were clean and there weren’t many homeless. although it felt deserted and the automobile as king here. The only form of rail transit here is a streetcar that runs down and up main street. I only used it once though because the distance between my hotel and union station honestly isin’t too bad (1 mile). My legs work so I’m going to make good use of them while I can.

With the absence of pharmacies there is also the absence of national food chains, I didn’t see a single McDonalds during my trip, which was honestly weird. Even the small town that I work from has a McDonalds!. The only “Recognizable” thing is a starbucks, there are 2 of em. Other than that, It’s all local restaurants and a crapton of bars and pubs

I don’t drink, so that rules about half of the places I can get food. And during my visit all other food spots where full. I ended up going to the Supermarket out of all places to get a meal. as they had meal options there. (I got chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and mac n cheese, honestly delicious)

Peek only when it’s dark!

I also visited the National WW1 Museum and It was pretty cool. Very information and they had a crapton of artifacts. I also got my first military discount here: $5 off a GA ticket, Hooray!

Very scary

There was also a little mall area with a small Pedway dubbed “The link”. It connects Union station with the Westin hotel and a shopping mall with plenty of unique shops, and a LegoLand! IDK how, but it reminded me Japan for some reason. Japan has way too many malls and they are connected through cool pedways and stuff

Other than that…. there is not much else. This really seems like a place where a Car is basically required to do anything substantial :(

For the short amount of time that I explored (1 to 2 hours) I found it boring. Not the best place I visited. Milwaukee completely BTFO’s this place and at a smaller footprint. Perhaps.. if it was warmer I would have liked it more. But I just don’t see myself coming back unless there was some special event going on there

I suppose if you like American Football and drinking… this is the place for you. It’s home of the Chiefs after all. Every 2nd person I saw was dripped out in chief gear when I visited which was during superbowl weekend. They even had a Fan exhibit at Union Station which was incredibly packed…

Just like Japan

In summary: Not the best, will not come back unless It’s for some special event. And I don’t see myself willingly living here.

"What else do I put here?"
